OF4WD’s Mission
Reminder of our Mission
Since our beginnings in 1998 as the Northern Lights 4×4 Trail Riders—and now as the Ontario Federation of 4WD Recreationists—one purpose has lit our path: keeping Ontario’s trails open, healthy, and welcoming for every four‑wheel‑drive enthusiast—today and for generations to come.
Our core values guide every turn of the wheel:
Stewardship & Sustainability
We treat Crown land and public trails as a shared legacy. We drive to enjoy nature—never to diminish it—while protecting access and the landscapes we love.Education & Responsibility
Knowing the rules, respecting private property, and modeling safe, low‑impact driving make us ambassadors for the sport. Each OF4WD member is a teacher on the trail.Community, Cooperation & Collaboration
Whether it’s partnering with hikers, snowmobilers, ATV riders, or local landowners, we believe shared respect builds stronger trails for everyone. From our twelve‑member board, 27 member clubs, and more than 2,000 members, we stand stronger together.Advocacy, Representation & Voice
Laws and policies shape where we can drive tomorrow. That’s why we secure seats on provincial working groups, respond to every land‑use consultation, and present data that reflects on‑the‑ground reality. When legislation is drafted—from Crown‑land access to trail liability, we insist on beingat the table as a recognized stakeholder, ensuring the voices of tens of thousands of Ontario 4WD owners are heard and respected.
Adventure & Enjoyment
Four‑wheeling is fun—period. We celebrate tourism, camaraderie, and the thrill of exploring rugged landscapes by vehicle, all while leaving minimal trace. Our mandate remains clear:
Protect and expand sustainable 4WD trail access on public lands.
Promote responsible, enjoyable off‑road recreation and tourism across Ontario.
Educate members and the public on safe, respectful trail use.
Collaborate with other trail user groups and stakeholders to resolve conflicts and shape fair legislation.
Secure a permanent presence at municipal, regional, and provincial policy tables so 4WD interests are considered in every decision that affects public land and trails.
When we pull together under the OF4WD banner, we aren’t just a federation of clubs—we’re guardians of Ontario’s wild places and champions of the freedom to explore them responsibly. Let’s renew our commitment, ignite our passion, and keep the Northern Lights shining on every trail we travel.
